Senior C++ Game Developer

About the job

I'm Gladman, Lead Gameplay Director for Flayl/Co-Owner of Feral Games Studio.

We're happy to announce that we are hiring for a C++ Senior Developer role, roughly for the next 6 months, give or take, with this being full time work for the duration, with a very high chance of continued full time work after that...provided we're all around very happy with the work quality & ethics that you bring to the table. To be crystal clear, this is a full time paid position for the duration of the contract work, and the pay reflects the position we are hiring for, along with the skill set we are looking for...in other words you will be more than adequately compensated for your time, energy, and work results. The quality of work you do during this ~6 month sprint will make or break you staying on board with Feral Games Studio long term or not. This could very potentially go from a half year contract to a long term position for many many years to come.

Some additional information on the subject:

You will be expected to work full time (40 hours a week) for the duration of the next 6 months & you will be paid bi-weekly for your time. There's a distinct possibility of financial bonuses on top of your hourly as well depending on your work quality & ethics, but that is very much dependent on you. The base pay is guaranteed, the bonuses are not. You will be expected to work directly alongside Gladman (Our Lead Gameplay Director), be in active communication with him on a daily basis about what you are working on, your progress on it, and you will likely also play a heavy role in consultation with work that he is doing as well, so bear that in mind, as that is something that will be expected from you.

Please note: if you do not have the time investment to consistently put in roughly 40 hours a week, then you will not be a good fit for us. We’re on a timetable & quality results will be expected in a timely manner.

Here's a rough list of requirements we're looking for in potential candidates:

  • Proof & demonstration of a very high level of C++ knowledge. We’re looking to hire someone extremely skilled with C++. This can be in the form of a combination of the following; portfolio material, live titles - AAA or Indie (with clear credits to you or some tangible way of proving your work), schooling accreditation/degrees, and anything else that might be relevant to us seeing your skills in action. This knowledge should have some seriously heavy overlap with Game Development, or should be primarily focused specifically on Game Development overall. We aren’t looking to hire someone to learn on the job, we are hiring you specifically for your deep knowledge, and very honed skill set.
  • High level understanding of network replication as a whole in Game Development. You will likely be working with Epic’s new Iris system for replication, along with the new Mover movement system. Understanding networking is a must for this role, as you will be expected to make all your work fully network replicated where relevant, and you will be helping to build foundational systems that can be utilized through blueprints, also where relevant.
  • The ability to problem solve at a very high level, understanding of proper debugging techniques, & the ability to execute a high level of forward thought with your work. You occasionally might be helping to debug things outside of your normal scope of work as well.
  • Extremely good communication skills. This is a must. Despite this being a short term contract work position to start, we're looking for someone to bring on board for the long term ideally. If you find you are the type of person that constantly experiences communication issues with others, someone who brings their ego into play constantly, then you aren't the right fit. You MUST be a team player, be patient with others, and be willing to communicate things at a high level to your team members & team leads. English doesn’t have to be your first language, but you do have to be able to speak/read/write it fluently at a very high level.
  • This one is more of a bonus one, but having a solid understanding of Unreal's physics system & having some experience working with it that you can directly show would be big bonus points with us. Ideally this would come in the form of C++ engine level physics rewrites, but we’re happy to look at anything related to this subject as a whole for extra brownie points.

I think that covers the majority of it. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out via DM’s, or via email: gladman@flaylsurvival.com

Note: If you applied to this job previously on the last job listing, please feel free to apply again as LinkedIn's auto rejection seems to have went off the deep end & rejected candidates we would've otherwise considered.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
